APPOINTS NEW PRESIDENT OF WET DIVISION
Industry Veteran to Drive Wet Division Strategic Growth
FREMONT, Calif. - July 12, 2001 - Mattson Technology (NASDAQ:
MTSN), a leading supplier of advanced process equipment used
to manufacture semiconductors, today announced David Ferran,
44, has been appointed to the post of president of Mattson
Technology's Wet Division. Ferran will oversee the entire
operations of the company's Wet Division, including Mattson
Technology's sites in Germany and in the United States. Ferran
will report directly to Mattson Technology CEO Brad Mattson.
Mattson commented that Ferran brings extensive leadership
experience to his role with the company. "We are very
excited to bring Dave on board. He is a veteran with an outstanding
track record in growing companies in this industry," noted
Mattson. "His experience will be invaluable to helping
continue our Wet Division's strategic growth." Mattson
also thanked Alan E. Walter, director of technology, and
Heinz Pichler, site manager of Pliezhausen and Donaueschingen,
for acting as interim co-presidents of the Wet Division.
The company anticipates continued growth in wet processing
market share over the next several years. "I believe
we are in an excellent position to further capitalize on
this market, especially once the industry starts on its historical
upturn," said Mattson.
Ferran joins Mattson Technology from Akrion LLC (Allentown,
Pa.), where he was most recently Chairman and CEO. Prior
to that, he was CEO of Submicron Systems (Allentown, Pa.).
Before Submicron Systems, Ferran was Chairman and CEO of
Tylan General (San Diego, Calif.), where he led the company
through its IPO and subsequent sale to Millipore. Ferran
spent 11 years as CEO for Vacuum General before leading the
integration with Tylan General. Ferran holds a bachelor's
of science degree from the University of New Hampshire and
maintains board positions with Millace Pte Ltd and ISSYS
Inc.
